The
West Genesee Central School District
Camillus,
New York
A
great place to live, work and play.
DIRECTIONS:
The West Genesee Central School District is located
primarily in the Town
of Camillus (in zip codes 13031 and13219). The
area is in the center of New York State in the beautiful
Finger Lakes region, a few miles to the west of the
city of Syracuse. Camillus is in Onondaga County, along
Route 5, on the banks of the Nine Mile River. There
is a Town of Camillus and a Village of Camillus.
The
Town of Camillus was originally settled in 1791 by
Captain Isaac Lindsay. In 1862 a fork of the Erie Canal
ran through the village. The Town of Camillus currently
contains 9,315 families made up of 63,600 individuals.

The
area has some rolling terrain caused by ice age glaciers
and their resulting drumlin hills. Nine Mile Creek
features excellent trout fishing, and the area contains
the Camillus State Forest, one of the few "old
growth"
forests left in New York State. The forest features hardwood
trees (mostly maples) that are over 350 years old. These
tress have been growing since before the first settles
arrived in the area.
